$60 per student (plus $20 range fee)

Length of course: 3 hours

 

Course goal: “To provide beginning shooters with an introduction to the knowledge, skills and attitude necessary to own and use a specific rifle model safely.”

This course is designed for people who are interested in learning a specific model rifle they wish to purchase. It is not a complete rifle course but the student will receive a thorough introduction to firearm safety, handling, and shooting skills. The student is encouraged to obtain more comprehensive training provided by the NRA Basic Rifle Shooting Course.

Required Materials for students: Firearm, 50 rds of ammo, pen and highlighter.  Firearm can be rented for $10 and ammo will be provided if student does not own a rifle. DO NOT BRING AMMO INTO THE CLASS!

Hearing and eye protection will be provided if needed.

Course Outline:

  • Introductions
  • Introduction to Rifle Safety, Parts, and Operation
  • Introduction to Ammunition and the Fundamentals of Riflel Shooting
  • Introduction to Rifle Cleaning, Storage, and Training Opportunities
  • Move to the Range
  • Introduction to Rifle Shooting From the Benchrest Position
  • Final thoughts

  • NRA Guide to the Basics of Rifle Shooting handbook
  • NRA FIRST Steps Rifle Orientation Completion Certificate
  • NRA Gun Safety Rules brochure
  • NRA Basic Firearm Training Program brochure
  • Winchester/NRA Marksmanship Qualification Program booklet
  • Basic Practical Rocker and Basic Practical Instruction
