This course introduces the student to the knowledge, skills, and attitude necessary for owning and using a pistol safely. Through this course, the student will learn about pistol parts and operation, ammunition, gun safety, pistol shooting fundamentals, and pistol shooting activities. The Basic Pistol Shooting Course will also help prepare the student for participation in other NRA courses. The entire course is instructor led.

Pistol Fundamentals

$90 per student (plus $20 range fee)

Length of course: 5 hours

Prerequisites: None

This course is intended for those who have never touched a firearm before or has very limited experience. The course teaches the very basics of pistol familiarization and pistol shooting and expands to include the opportunity to shoot several different types and caliber pistols from .22 semi auto to .357 double action revolver, slowly introducing recoil, so the student can be more informed when selecting a pistol for purchase.

This course does NOT require a student to own a pistol but is intended to provide the student with the necessary skills and information for owning  one. All materials are provided to include guns, ammo, hearing protection, eye protection, and targets. Students are in no way required to shoot every pistol and are encouraged not to do so if they feel uncomfortable. This is their option but many elect to shoot them all. Upon completion of the course, students will receive a course completion certificate accompanied by a letter outlining the course and listing the pistols the student shot.

Length of course: 3 hours

Objective

This course introduces one pistol of the students choice, preferably the students own pistol. It is not a complete pistol course but will provide the student with all the information needed to safely handle a pistol and marksmanship skills needed to shoot the pistol accurately. If the student does not own a pistol yet, a pistol can be rented for $5. The student must provide ammunition.

NRA Pistol Instructor Training

$200 per student (plus $20 range fee)

Length of course: 16 hours

This course develops NRA Certified Pistol Instructors who possess the knowledge, skills, and attitude necessary to conduct the NRA Basics of Pistol Shooting Course.

Prerequisites:

  • Complete Phase 1 of the NRA Basics of Pistol Shooting Course and achieve a passing score of 90% or higher. Course fee includes the cost for Phase 1. Course code will be sent to the candidate once deposit or full payment is received.
  • Pass the NRA Pre-course qualification. The NRA Pre-course qualification will have a minimum passing score of 80 out of a possible 100 points. This checklist is attached to the registration page at www.nrainstructor.org. Candidates will print this checklist and bring it to the course on the first day. Pre-qualification will be conducted at the range prior to the beginning of the course.
  • Complete pre-course questionnaire. Questionnaires will be sent to candidates once deposit or full payment has been paid. Candidates are to complete the questionnaire and send back prior to the beginning of the course. Read More

This course consists of 2 phases in order to complete. Phase 1 is online consisting of classroom work and exam. Phase 2 is practical and live fire.

“Firearm safety is the law in California. Every firearm owner should understand and follow firearm safety practices, have a basic familiarity with the operation and handling of their firearm, and be fully aware of the responsibility of firearm ownership. Pursuant to Penal Code section 26840, any person who acquires a firearm must have a Firearm Safety Certificate (FSC), unless they are statutorily exempt from the FSC requirement. To obtain an FSC, a person must pass a Department of Justice (DOJ) written test on firearm safety. The test is administered by DOJ Certified Instructors, who are often located at firearms dealerships.”

Get your Firearms Safety Certificate in a quiet stress free environment in just a few minutes. Before you take the short test you will be provided with a study guide or you can click HERE to study at home. The test is composed of 30 multiple choice questions and must pass with a 75%. Objective

This course introduces the AR15 semi-auto rifle to the student and expands on the NRA FIRST Steps Rifle Orientation Course. The student will complete the NRA course and will receive an NRA course completion certificate. This course will focus on the AR15 and cover in more detail other aspects of marksmanship such as ballistics, optics, and zeroing sights.

The objective of this course is to instruct the student on their own rifle. However, if the student does not have his/her own rifle, then one can be rented. This is not a complete rifle course as taught in the more comprehensive NRA Basic Rifle Shooting Course but will provide the student with all the information needed to safely handle and operate an AR15 as well as marksmanship skills needed to shoot the rifle accurately. The student must provide ammunition. The student is encouraged to enroll in the Basic Rifle Shooting Course if he/she wishes to expand their knowledge of rifle marksmanship and competition shooting. This course will introduce bolt action and semi-automatic rifles to the student and will also help prepare the student for participation in other NRA courses. The student will learn about the parts of the rifle and its operation, ammunition, firearm safety, rifle marksmanship fundamentals in various shooting positions, and rifle shooting activities. This course is an orientation introducing the rifle and shotgun to students in a 1 hour instructional session covering firearms safety, range safety, marksmanship fundamentals, hands-on firearms handling followed by live fire of 3 rifles and 2 shotguns at the shooting range. The course will provide you with a variety of firearms calibers and models to experience should you decide to purchase a gun. You will even get an opportunity to test your skills shooting down some clay pigeons. Guns and ammo are included; however, if you wish to bring your own firearm you’re more than welcome to do so but you must provide your own ammo. This is not an NRA course and there are no course materials but you will get a deeper appreciation for all types of firearms while gaining a sense of accomplishment.
